Katie Hafner has been writing about technology since 1983. She is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, where she writes on health care and technology. She has also covered technology for Newsweek and BusinessWeek. In addition, she has written for The New York Times Magazine, EsquireWired, The New Republic, The Huffington Post and O Magazine.

She is the author of six books: Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier (with John Markoff); The House at the Bridge: A Story of Modern Germany; Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins of the Internet (with Matthew Lyon); The Well: A Story of Love, Death and Real Life in the Seminal Online Community; A Romance on Three Legs: Glenn Gould’s Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Piano; and her latest, a memoir entitled Mother Daughter Me, which is scheduled to be published by Random House in July 2013.

She lives in San Francisco.
