On June 11, the Internet Society and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History will co-host a summit entitled The Internet Age: Founders to Future, which will explore these questions and more with a distinctive panel that includes Internet Hall of Fame inductees Vint Cerf, Mitchell Baker, and David Farber.
The summit, also featuring Sebastian Thrun, is part of the Smithsonian’s program, ‘Raise It Up! America Innovates,’ which celebrates the July opening of the museum’s new Innovation wing. The new wing will feature exhibitions and learning spaces that explore America’s desire for game-changing ideas, and include memorabilia associated with the early development of the Internet.
“The Internet is not the invention of any single individual, but the result of immeasurable steps by thousands of people across the globe,” noted Kathy Brown, President and CEO of the Internet Society. “The Internet Society is delighted to collaborate with the Museum to assemble this very special group of luminaries – including several inductees in the Internet Hall of Fame – who hold a unique perspective on both the origin and evolution of what many believe to be the most transformative invention of our age.”
The panel will be moderated by Eric Hintz, a historian with the Museum’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation.
The event will take place at 2:30 pm ET in the Museum’s Warner Bros. Theater, and will also be webcast live.
