Rafael (Lito) Ibarra

An Internet pioneer in his native El Salvador, Rafael (Lito) Ibarra connected the country to the Internet and worked to improve early systems for access nationwide. He also established the country’s first Internet cafes and managed the .sv domain. His influence is felt throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, and globally, as the founder and leader of several Internet institutions, as well as a former board member of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); Latin America and Caribbean Network Information Centre (LACNIC); Latin American and Caribbean Association of Top Level Domains (LACTLD); and Latin American Advanced Networks Cooperation (RedCLARA).
